I have been working with the content management system (CMS) Joomla for more than two years and it has to be one of the most powerful free applications on the planet. Not only is it a world class CMS, but you can mold it for so many uses. For example, I use it to host this web site, I have used it to build a topic specific social network, and I am currently evaluating it as a learning management system . If you would like to take a look at how others are using Joomla, make a visit to JFoobar . They have a great run down of many sites that run Joomla.
One of the greatest assets Joomla possesses is the development community that supports the application. Not only does this community volunteer their time to code and support the core application, they have produced an enormous number of extensions that increase the functionality of Joomla beyond your needs and wants. Here are few examples of the extensions that have been developed, and most for free: Social Networking Newsletters Surveys Learning Management eCommerce Microblogging Multimedia Chat Facebook Connect Open Social If you are charged with building web portals that involve managing content of any type, I recommend seriously evaluating Joomla. |

I don't know about you, but I'm always searching for abundant and free sources of graphics for the training projects on which I work. And especially royalty free graphics. One of my favorites is morguefile.com . Well, I've struck the motherload of royalty free graphics sites over at Daniel Adam's InstantShift blog. Some of these have free graphics and some are pay. But all royalty free. |

Sometimes theory enters into the equation and we can't avoid it. But the theory I like is practical theory. You know, the type you can apply immediately because you know it works. I guess it's not theory at that point any longer, it's knowledge. Enough of that though. My real purpose for this post is the application of Gagne's 9 events in "E" learning (what's elearning anyway? Isn't it just learning? A subject for another post). Jeffrey Goldman of Provident Bank has a short, sweet, and to the point post on his blog about how he applies Gagne's 9 steps when developing elearning. |

I've been using Captivate for a few years now and the tool keeps getting stronger and stronger with each new version. Of course it still has it bugs that drive me crazy, (e.g. slide timing automatically changing following the editing of a slide element) but overall a very strong tool that will remain in my development stable of tools. As I get ready to begin exploring Captivate 4, I came across a great review from Scott DeLoach at ClickStart, Inc. |

This blog is more about opinion and conjecture rather than theory and research. I'm more interested in practicality, observations, and experiences as they relate to learning, performance, productivity, process, and sometimes quality. So, welcome and I hope you enjoy what I have to say. |
